StreetLeverage is an organization that was created to highlight the challenges and developments in the sign language interpreting industry. Through online discussions, interviews and articles, StreetLeverage seeks to shed light on the realities of being a sign language interpreter.
This year, StreetLeverage has taken their mission on the road with StreetTour 2015. On September 26th and 27th, Atlanta will be one of the many stops on this year’s StreetTour. The scheduled speaker, Trudy Suggs, plans to present a program called- Interpreters: The Path From Deaf Disempowerment to True Allies. The presentation will center around the roles of disempowerment in the Deaf community and how sign language interpreters can overcome these obstacles to become allies with the community at large.
